How can you gain back your quality time?

Sleeping. That’s how. Surprised? If it’s so simple, why aren’t we doing it? Is it because is fashionable to never stop working and “doing”? You’re not a 24/7 convenience store! The effects of sleeping less than 7 hours each night are very dramatic – for your productivity, your health and your life.

What happens when you don’t sleep enough?

Ask Arianna Huffington, co-founder of The Huffington Post. She collapsed in 2007 due to exhaustion, and only learned afterwards that 8 hours of sleep every night does miracles.

I had the same experience when I was in my twenties. And trust me, fainting is no fun. Our bodies are smarter than we are, and if you don’t take the necessary breaks, your body will shut down. And as a result, you will not be productive as you wish, and even worse, you’ll be sick.

What happens when you DO sleep enough, like the founder of Amazon does?

When you get the 8 hours that your body needs, you’re sharper and more productive than if you slept 5 or 6. It’s not about how many hours you work, but about how effective your work is during those hours. You’ll get more done, therefore you’ll gain back the quality time you’re craving.

My friend Kirsten is another example of sleeping enough. Actually, she overdoes it! She’s proud to say that she sleeps 10 hours every night. I don’t know how she does it! I’ll tell you this though: she’s a very successful event planner and single mom of three children.

Take advantage of your time off during the upcoming holidays, and test yourself out! Give your body and mind what they desperately need, and you’ll be surprised at the results.
