Happy New Year 2018!

Today is for many of us a day of reflection. The excitement of an entire year ahead and new possibilities inspire us to set new goals. Keep in mind it’s equally important, maybe even more, to know when to say “no”. Samin Nosrat, a renowned chef and food columnist for the New York Times, explains how she does it in Tim Ferriss’ new book, Tribe of Mentors: “The more clear I am about what my goals are, the more easily I can say no”.

The power of “No”.

Do you always say yes to everyone and everything, only to find yourself burnt out and unhappy most of the time? I’ve been there too. The thought of saying “no” wouldn’t even cross my mind. However I learned that by saying “no”, I was automatically saying “yes” to achieving my goals and to having more time to enjoy life the way I want. Even better, by saying “no” I was making room for unexpected and exciting things to happen ;-)))

It begins with you.

Like you’ve heard a thousand times in flights before taking off, “…put your oxygen mask first, then help others”. You’re no good to others if you feel frustrated and exhausted. “No” to a business idea, or “no” to fulfilling others people’s agendas will not make of you a selfish human being, but a wise and generous one to those around you. Think about the people and things that do make you happy and that can help you achieve your goals. Those are the ones whom to say “yes”.

I’ll leave you with a quote from Warren Buffett that you can apply in every aspect of your life: “The difference between successful people and very successful people is that very successful people say “no” to almost everything”.

Having said that, I say “yes” to reading your comments! Feel free to reply to this newsletter and share any thoughts.
